The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Veterinary Services has successfully concluded training on the Digital Adaptation of Fireless Cooker Technology for Climate Resilience and Women’s Livelihoods, conducted in Molo in partnership with CASCADE Kenya under the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).

The training brought together farmers from Molo, Rongai, Kuresoi North, Kuresoi South, Bahati and Nakuru West Sub-Counties, alongside Agricultural Officers from all six Sub-Counties. Participants gained practical skills in the use, production and commercialization of fireless cookers as a climate-smart solution that also promotes food safety and preservation.

They were also trained on marketing strategies and social media use to promote their products and create income-generating opportunities. The training further covered climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Chief Officer for Agriculture, Engineer Margaret Kinyanjui, urged participants to embrace the technology, plant trees to conserve the environment and consider fruit trees such as avocado as a source of income.

Mary Magua, one of the successful beneficiaries, shared her inspiring journey, having learnt the fireless cooker technology nearly 18 years ago. She has since built her livelihood around the skill, enabling her to educate her children and build her own home. Mary described the technology as a great source of income and encouraged others to explore and exploit the growing niche.

The initiative supports Governor Susan Kihika’s agenda on climate-smart agriculture, environmental conservation, women’s empowerment and sustainable livelihoods.
